Teacher Training:

Musical Sparks offers practical, face-to-face training designed for primary teachers who feel unsure about teaching music.

Whether you work in EYFS, KS1 or KS2, these sessions break down the basic elements of music in a clear, accessible way and show how to share them with children. Using tried-and-tested songs, games and resources, I demonstrate simple, engaging activities that build confidence and make music a natural part of everyday classroom life; no specialist background required.

Available to schools and nurseries across Somerset and North Devon, training can be tailored to your setting’s needs. Email musical.sparks@outlook.com for a bespoke quote and to discuss how Musical Sparks can support your staff.

Music isn’t just fun—it’s a game-changer for children’s development. Studies show it boosts confidence, accelerates brain growth, and sharpens skills like language, reading, and sound processing.

Plus, making music together promotes teamwork and a real sense of community.

Let’s make music a vibrant part of your school’s curriculum and give every child the chance to thrive!

Emily Murphy is a musician and educator specialising in early years and primary music education. She has taught at Guildhall Young Artists Taunton and various schools in Somerset, delivering engaging, child-centred music lessons. From autumn 2025, she will take up the role of Head of Music at Chard Prep School. A passionate advocate of Kodály and Dalcroze pedagogy, she holds British Kodály Academy Primary Level 1 and 2 Certificates (with distinction) and completed her Certificate of Music Education in the Early Years in 2024.

A former Royal College of Music bassoon scholar, Emily has over a decade of experience teaching music. She is committed to making music education accessible, particularly in rural communities, and first discovered the bassoon herself on a school trip - an experience that shaped her belief in the power of live music for young children.

In 2018, she founded Tiddlygigs CIC, a charitable organisation bringing high-quality live music to early years audiences. Through Tiddlygigs, she runs concerts, music classes, and school workshops, inspiring a love of music from the very start.
